Project Details
In 2007, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) strategized the expansion and upgradation of various systems at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi(JIAP). IEC commissioned the first of its kind, Hatch and Pop-Up type underground power pits, with Plug & Play type Solid State Ground Power Units and Advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems (A-VDGS) at this major airport in Pakistan. Prior to this system, the airport authority used AGNIS/PAPA system for Pilot Guidance, a system no longer recommended by ICAO.
This project was executed in phases and included the dismantling and reconstruction of taxiways and aircraft waiting areas at the secondary runway. This involved replacing the existing halogen-based airfield lights to more energy efficient LED based airfield lighting system.
The successful execution of these projects was so monumental for CAA that it decided to upgrade all major airports to the A-VDGS system and LED based lights thereafter.
